Skip Rizzo at Tedx Manhattan Beach Talks about How Virtual Reality is Helping Soldiers Recover From War

Our co-founder and Chief Scientist Skip Rizzo has been exploring the power of virtual reality to help soldiers recover from war for over a decade. In this TEDx talk from 8 years ago, he demonstrated some of his earliest innovations in using VR for exposure therapy with veterans:

Through products like BraveMind and Sim Coach, Skip is continuing to pioneer new techniques to leverage VR for assessing and treating post-traumatic stress disorder. His Virtual Iraq/Afghanistan project brings this cutting-edge therapy to veterans in over 50 clinics.

Beyond psychotherapy, Skip envisions broader applications of VR to transform medicine. His research is testing the use of VR to rehabilitate cognitive skills impaired by trauma and develop motivating VR games for physical rehabilitation.

The multi-billion dollar acquisition of Oculus by Facebook underscores the massive potential of virtual reality. Like his heroes Myron Krueger and Franklin D. Roosevelt, Skip is committed to uplifting people through new technology.

At UbiquityVX, we are proud to build on Skip's pioneering research to drive innovation in human-centered VR medicine. From his early demonstrations to now, VR continues to open new possibilities for helping people face physical and mental health challenges. We are excited to transform healthcare through the virtual reality revolution Skip began over a decade ago.
